Fitness Adventure: Learn to Surf

Where: New Smyrna Beach, Florida

When: May 19th, July 21st, & Sept. 22nd

The Low-Down

Ok, so who hasn’t wanted to learn to surf? Yet staring at the line-up of surfers bobbing up and down waiting for the next wave can be daunting, and the “locals” are famously possessive of their local breaks. So how do you break in? Plan your vacation to the Orlando area and build in a day to visit New Smyrna Beach, home of the Crosswaves Family Surfing Ministry. Several times each summer, Crosswaves puts on an all-day beach event that includes free surf lessons, live worship band, and a guest speaker. Everything is free, even the surfboards. Keep tabs on any new dates, download a waiver form, and see pictures from previous events at their Crosswaves website.

Other Stuff to Do

Orlando, Florida has just about everything you could possibly want in a warm-weather vacation. There is of course Disney World and Universal Studios Florida, but for a change of pace, try out SeaWorld which has plenty of rides to go along with its amazing array of animal life. Swim with the dolphins at the Discovery Cover, or experience the world of alligators at Gatorland.

The new Shout! Outdoor Lifestyle Magazine has an entire department dedicated to bringing you refreshing stories on the subject of BOAT, SURF AND SNORKLE. Before you leave this page you can post your comments and fitness adventure experiences below.
